Dear Member

I hope you all managed to get out into your gardens a bit over the summer and weren't too washed away! After the wettest summer on record I thought we would be struggling for entries in the Summer Show but I was very wrong. What a great show it was – ranked as one of the best we have ever had. Thank you very much for all your efforts that made it such a good show. I would also like to thank the Show committee for all their hard work in producing such a good day. It was also very nice to have been the first group to have used the newly decorated Village Hall which looks really smart.

November Show

Talking about shows don't forget the November show on the 1st November. Entries are to be in by the 29th October. This is the show we are having an extra class to mark the Village Hall's 80th Birthday. The class is called 'A Celebration cake' and is Class 07. It is a victoria sponge cake decorated to mark the Hall's celebrations.

December Meeting

The tickets are on sale for the December meeting 'A Christmas Medley' with supper. The tickets are £7.50 each and it is a members only evening. They are on sale at the Hut or at the October or November meetings. You can always ring me as well (379976). They are going fast so if you want to go please buy your ticket as soon as you can to avoid disappointment.

News from the Hut

The Hut is open now on Saturday mornings until the 11th October so please go down and get all the things you need for the garden to see you through the winter and to start  you off sowing your seeds for next year.

The Hut team has potted up bowls of hyacinths which will be on sale at the November meeting. They will make ideal Christmas presents.

If any one would like some manure please call Janet or Mike on 300342 to arrange a time to go and collect some. You will need to take some bags, garden fork and of course a little bit of energy!!

A big thank you to the 'Hut Team' and their helpers for all their hard work over the season. They have all done a great job all through the season.

If anyone has a few hours to spare next year volenteers are always much appreciated. Please let me know if you can help.

The Hut will reopen next February as usual.

Bird Seed

Orders are being taken for Bird Seed. If you would like to order Peanuts, Fat balls, Winter picnic, Sunflower or Niger seeds please ring Janet on 300342. Orders are being taken until the 5th October.
Prices are as follows Peanuts 10kg - £12.90. 25kg - £21.50. Fat balls £6.50 for 50 or £9.00 for 100. Winter Picnic 20kg - £12.50. Sunflower seeds 15kg - £10.00. Niger – 25kg - £33.00.

Seed Catalogues

The seed catalogues will be available at the November show. Again we will have Dobies and Thompson and Morgan. We get 20% discount so it is well worth ordering them, even if it is only a couple of packets. Any queries please contact Sally and Alan Cox on 390330. Orders will need to be in by the 12th December.

Garden Trail

We are going to have a Garden Trail again next July 2009. This is always a popular event and if any one would like to volunteer their garden please would you give me a call. The type of garden doesn't matter, it is all good fun.

October and November meetings

The October meeting is Tatton Park's Kitchen Garden by Sam Youd. The competition is a Vase of Autumn Berries. The visiting sales table is the RNLI. In November we have a talk by Bob Brown on Light in a Dark Season. The competition is a Pot Plant. The visiting sales table in the Hospice of the Good Shepherd.
