NEWSLETTER – JULY/SEPTEMBER 2011 Dear Member I hope you have been able to make the most of the sunny days in your gardens and enjoy all your hard work. I would like to welcome all our new members to the Society and hope you all enjoy the events and meetings we have going on – don't forget to pop down to the Hut and buy your gardening products. Cup holders from the Summer and Autumn Shows If any of the winners of cups from the Summer and Autumn shows still have any cups please could you arrange to take them down to the hut or pass them onto Bob Warboys as early on in July as possible, so that we can organise to get them engraved ready for this years shows. Garden Trail I hope everyone enjoyed the Garden Trail! I would like to say a huge thank you to all the members who opened their gardens and everyone else that helped to make it such a lovely day. I am sure you will agree that although all the gardens were very different from each other they were all lovely. A lot of hard work goes into 'getting the gardens ready' for the day, so thank you for all your efforts they certainly were worth it. Also a big thank you to everyone that supported the event and hope you enjoyed looking at the varying types of gardens and enjoying the different surroundings. Summer Show The Summer Show is on Saturday 20th August. I hope you will all be able to put a few things into the show! If you haven't entered anything into the Show before and would like to but feel as though you need a little bit of help please let us know and we will hopefully be able to assist. Also if you require a schedule please let me know – there is a copy on our website for you to refer to or print off. Good luck and look forward to seeing your entries. Entry forms for the Children's classes are available to be picked up from the hut, or can be obtained from Jeff Formstone by telephoning him on 01244 322003. Whilst on the subject of entry forms, please can you use a separate form for each person entering, including two people on one form complicates the admin work when preparing the entries, many thanks for your co-operation. History of the Society One of our Committee members has been gathering historical information about the Society so we can put together a little booklet to celebrate our 65th Anniversary. If you have any information or any old photos of members, events, Shows etc then we would be very grateful to receive copies of them. A lot of time has been spent in the archives in Chester and interviewing members of the Society. It is really interesting to learn about what happened 65 years ago. So thank you to Sub for all his hard work – all we have to do now is type it up and produce the booklet – if you do have any info or photos we can add them in! Bird Food Orders We will again be ordering bird food at the end of September. The Hut team will be collecting the orders at the Hut from now, at the Summer Show and at the September/October meetings. So if you require any food to feed the birds over the winter please let them know. If you don't want a full sack yourself then perhaps you could go halves with a friend. News from the Hut We have had an exceedingly busy season down at the Hut so far this season. Thank you for all your support and to the helpers who are all working very hard. The Hut is open on a Monday night 7pm – 8pm until the 10th of September when it will go to a Saturday morning 10.30 to 12.00. The Hut closes for the season on 8th October. Please do carry on supporting them. As well as being a major fund raiser, the hut is what gives the society a weekly meeting point for members throughout the growing season which helps make it such a strong club. Don't forget if you need any Autumn Lawn Food please let them know. Next Meeting Our next meeting is on the 7th September – Bob Jennings will be coming to talk to us about the increasingly popular pastime of Bee keeping. The competition is – "Any vegetable, flower, or pot plant that didn't make it to the Summer Show'! And finally I hope you all have a lovely summer and I look forward to seeing you all at the Summer Show. Happy Gardening Wendy Carman |
